I got this because my professor used it. Dr. Alexis Gray is amazing and she's super-duper cool. Anthropology is a fascinating subject in general and the way this text is organized, along with the included articles, is ideal for energetic and passionate professors. I have kept this book because of the wonderful memories I made with the other students on occasions in which we studied and discussed our favorite parts of each chapter. If you're in the market for this book then prepare yourself for the best time you'll have this semester or quarter.
I've read about three fourths of the book now and I am not impressed. The topic is quite interesting but the content of the book is not all that engaging. The chapter summaries are fairly decent for reviewing though. I am not a fan of the magazine style text books that social science classes seem to love. The CD-Rom has a bunch of links to webpages that are no longer there making most of the disc worthless. Hopefully your professors realize this more than mine does... Shortly after the author refers to Christianity as a superstition (which from an anthropological viewpoint is probably the way to refer to it as all religions) he quotes the Bible probably without realizing it... In general, a boring and underwhelming look on a very interesting topic.
I needed this book for college, and found it on here cheaper than it was to rent it from the university textbook rental. Served it's purpose, and returned it just fine without any issues.
This book was a requirement for a class. I was disappointed to find out that it was missing some chapters, from page 73-126? I don’t know if it’s just the copy I got or what but it makes getting a good grade difficult. ): it was really cheap though so I guess I’m glad to still have the rest of it?
Had to purchase for an anthropology course easy to read and very interesting. It's also good to know that America is not the center of the world and other cultures have something good to offer if your mind is open.
It’s exactly what you expect a book for college to be. Just like buying a book from the book store.
I used this book in my first Anthropology class and this book helped me get interested in the field. It provided so many great insights and information about other cultures, without being elitist. Definitely would recommend for any Cultural Anthropology class!
This book was a pain to get through but it had everything I needed to pass my anthropology class. It also saved me a couple hundred because I didn't have to buy it new. It came to me on time and had very simple and clear instructions on how to send it back. the return process went smoothly.
