This book could be about 200 pages shorter. It constantly reiterates itself. The book also contradicts itself and in certain places makes absolutely no sense. One sentence is on topic and the next has nothing to do with the topic. More than not, it has misused words in places and from a readers perspective the book wasn’t proofread AT ALL. I can’t believe I have to test over this nonsense. To add to that they continue to make new editions, which aren’t necessary and don’t have any new usefull information. But, new editions mean more departments have to update their tests, while more poor fire fighters have to continue to buy the newer useless editions to try and pass promotional exams. SCAM

I wasn't sure if I should buy this book given I also had the "Introducing Autodesk Maya 2016" -- but VERY GLAD I DID. The author in this book offers experience-based opinions through out the whole book. Honestly I wish more books were written this way. For example, in other books Rigging is defined as always building a skeleton. "Rig it Right" spends the first few chapters explaining and walking you through examples of how do you don't always need to do something overly complicated. After spending a few hours with this book, I made huge progress on my characters. and I'm only 1/2 way through the book. Great stuff. Highly recommended.

I have had this book for over a year, and found it to be instantly helpful in learning to rig my own characters. Yes, Tina makes jokes in the paragraphs, but I find it keeps me from getting too bored with the extremely technical aspects of the subject matter. I also enjoy her comments about how things were years ago, to give beginners some perspective on how much much CG has changed since early versions of Maya. Tina is a former teacher of mine, so I knew this book would be good, but I was surprised that after going through it, I am no longer intimidated by rigging at all. I plan to use this book as a Text for a beginning rigging class I'm teaching myself next month.

So far I've stumbled past only one semantic change that this book didn't accommodate - what amounts to toggling "Preserve Children" instead of "Discrete Transform". Everything else in this book is quite informative and insightful - this is not a limp reference guide to something we could navigate to freely online. It's a class - you learn what you're doing and while you do that, you learn why you're doing it. You learn what doesn't work, too.It's no substitute for familiarity, but almost no technical guides ever are. It's still important that Riggers spend time with it, stay in practice, etc. To me it was vital that I reference something and learn the ins-and-outs rather than reach for that suspicious little crutch Maya gives us with the Character Controller feature in post-~2014. As tempting as that (frankly, overdue) feature has become, it's going to prove to be too little for anyone who's doing more than setting up a reference mannequin.In closing I'd like to add that the author is easily one of the most entertaining guides I've ever encountered in print. So it's good for a laugh too, how bout them apples.

This book is amazing, I purchased this in order to acquire the knowledge needed to rig characters for video games. This book is very detailed and the author takes the extra step to provide you the small details that make or brake the rigging process. I am currently teaching courses in 3D modeling, but this has given me the knowledge to also help my students build Riggs that work well with their final projects.If you are looking for a book that explains the rigging process then I recommend this book.

This book is worth the money , the way the authors explains the processes is straight forward and easy to understand.The topics are what you would expect for a production rig , it covers creating UI for yours rigs, Bendable limb setup etc .On a scale for 1 - 10 where 1 i terrible and 10 perfect for users who want to learn rigging concepts id give it an 8 .Reason for the 8 ?There isn't much scripting information in the book , though it did come with some scripts to try out .I wanted to learn how to automate certain task but that's just me asking for a bit too much .The assignments are also great to follow . Get this book plus a Mel scripting book .

Very very well written book. I learned a tremendous amount about rigging from it. The school I went to sadly does not have much of a tech side offered. I didn't realize this until later on in the curriculum. No rigging class, no scripting class. So I bought this book and learned quite a bit through it. As of this review writing, the author is no longer at the school she is mentioned as being at in it and is now at SCAD and has been promoted. Judging from this book she seems to be a tremendously talented educator and artist.the line of humor she uses provides a nice backdrop to the lessons too so you won't get bored to tears and loose focus in the lessons. Things are done very step by step.

I ordered this book at 10:30 am and it was delivered by 6 pm. ...fastest order I've ever had fulfilled. I love amazon! ---now the book--- I like the way she has divided the ideas in this book. It allows my brain to sort out the 'nerd' info from the nitty gritty info that really matters. She has a sense of humor and it bubbles over in her book, nicely done! Thank you!!!

Passed my police exam for Dallas PD. Every police department is different so keep this in mind because they all use different standards for testing. This book covers every possible test you may encounter.

This book i think was great help. My only complaint is that it is very focussed around the NY City test, and my test, although was in NY, was not a city test, and was nothing at all like the book practice tests of content. However, if you read all the strategies provided, and practice the test and the wording, you should be prepared for anything they are asking. The test is less about what you know, and more about how well you can understand what they are asking and extrapolating the correct answers from information provided.

Great book! A lot of obvious information that I personally didn't think of so it's good for them to point them out! Definitely enjoying this piece!

This book is great don’t get me wrong but the Notmal Hall Police book is great it’s right to the point. Broken down by what is exactly on most department tests. That’s my personal preference but to each is their own.

Times, etc.), Wu discusses key moments and phenomena in Asian-American history: the WWII internment camps, the 1992 L.A. riots, the "model minority myth," the virulent anti-Asian sentiment in the U.S. during the 1980s' recession (exemplified by the murder of a Chinese American engineer by two white auto workers, fined $3,780 for the crime) and periodic fads involving "Asian-ness" in American media. Great book. As an educator people often ask for books that are easy to read & comprehend around social justice. I would recommend this for sure. I've referred to it many times.

I can honestly say this: I will never, ever be able to listen to a racist comment about Asian Americans again - even an unintended one -without thinking of what I've learned in this book. There were times I cried while reading, considering the life-long "otherness" foisted on Asian Americans by white Americans, including myself.A few chapters into this book, I was sitting in an exit row on a plane that was getting ready for take-off. The flight attendant came down the aisle to ask the perfunctory questions of us in those seats, of our willingness to die for the cause and all. The flight attendants are required to get a verbal `yes' from each passenger in the exit row. Sitting across the aisle from me was a middle aged Asian American business man, dressed impeccably, clearly a frequent flier (as most people in the exit row are). After explaining the situation, the flight attendant turned to this man and asked, "do you speak English?" he responded, "yes", with the complete lack of accent only available to a 2nd or 3rd (or longer) generation Asian American. I almost jumped out of my seat, with my new awareness of what it would be like to be asked questions like this (and worse), have assumptions made, and be treated as "other", and "not us", for your entire life. (I actually turned to the man, and a bit shaky with my brand-new righteous indignation on behalf of all Asian Americans, said, "I apologize for the stupidity of Caucasians." He gave me the odd look I deserved.)Here's the rub: how do I - how do we - engage in this critical conversations without somewhat perpetuating or adding to the "otherness" sin against Asian Americans? By the very fact that I am trying to figure out how to be a part of change - in my own heart, first, and in our culture in some way - I am concurrently, and by necessity, bringing attention to the uniqueness (read: otherness) of the Asian American experience. How can I pursue the friendship I think I would really enjoy with the Asian American youth worker in san diego I met through all this mess, have conversations about stuff like this, and yet still not treat him as my token Asian American friend, as my personal guilt-assuager, or as my "project" - all positions that do violence to him.The book actually addresses this tension, explaining (at length) why the ideal of "colorblindness" doesn't work. but, either I didn't quite understand that part, or I thought the final conclusion of "live in the tension" wasn't quite satisfying enough.Anyhow. I really do recommend this book, especially for anyone who would like to grow in their understanding of the Asian American experience and the issues that continue to surround the racism we don't tend to talk about in America.

I greatly enjoy this author, I heard his story during the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity a few years back. He give great insight on the issues on race and ethnicity beyond just black and white. I highly recommend this book.

Wu provides information on how racism affects Asians as well as Blacks in the U.S. in a way that many who write about anti-racism and racial issues do not. Blacks, Asians, and those who are viewed by Whites as less than "American" (by those who use being middle class or upper class White as their norm for being a U.S. citizen) by others need to be allies against this racism.

Decent read, content was very good. Goes into great depth on breaking out of the normal black-white dichotomy discourse

Great ideas, innovative. The only problem so far is the exercises are not ordered correctly, more complex grooves come before simpler ones. I worked with the simpler pieces first, then, went back and learned the difficult exercises. You must know how to read drum music before you use this book, and have some good independence.

I played drums in high school; played in some jazz bands as I got older and began too raise a family I put playing on the back burner. At 55 I got the fever again began to think wouldn't playing drums be a great way to exercise while doing something I enjoyed doing. This is when I discovered Mike Clark. I love the exercises he presents in this book and it's right in line with what I'm trying to accomplish musically. And Mike does not muscle the drums he plays them with great taste like Harvey Mason or Steve Gadd two master drummers with whom I pattern my style. This book is a great treasure.Thank you Mike Clark, Master Drummer

Like many drummers, I have marveled at Mike Clark's amazing rhythms on albums such as "Thrust", and have been left scratching my head wondering "how does he do that?"This book really broke down Mike's brand of highly syncopated, 16th-note funk for me, increased my understanding, and opened up a lot of doors for my drumming. It's full of practical examples, that you can actually use in a musical situation.If you take the time to work through all of these exercises, you will be surprised at just how funky you can sound! I personally found this book is the real deal.

I have the greatest respect for Mike's playing and his contributions to the music. In this book he clearly lays out alot of material that had mystified me. Very glad I bought this book and I recommend it to all drummers who want to expand their funky abilities.
