Robert D. Cooke received his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechancis from the University of Illinois in 1963. Since then he has been at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he is now a professor in the Department of Engineering Physics. His interests include stress analysis and finite element methods. In addition to the present book, he is author of Finite Element Modeling for Stress Analysis (Wiley, 1995) and Advanced Mechanics of Materials (2nd Edtion, Prentice Hall, 1999, with Warren C. Young). David S. Malkus received his Ph.D. from Boston University in 1976. He spent two years at the National Bureau of Standards and seven years in the Mathematics Department of Illinois Institute of Technology. He is now Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the Univrersity of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests concern application of the finite element method to problems of structural and continuum mechanics, in particular the flow of non-Newtonian fluids. He is a member of the Rheology Research Center (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and the Society of Rheology. Michael E. Plesha received his B.S. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University, the Ph.D. degree in 1983. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1983 where he is Professor of Engineering Mechanics. His research areas include constitutive modeling and finite element analysis of contact-friction problems, transient finite element analysis, and discrete element methods. Robert J. Witt received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987. He is now an associate professor in the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests are in computational methods of fluid and solid mechanics, with particular application to nuclear systems.

As a graduate mechanical engineering student who has taken a few FEA courses and worked in industry for 5 years performing finite element analysis, I'm absolutely disgusted with this book. This book was used for an 'Intro to FEA' graduate course I recently took. It provides almost no examples and has a lack of coherent, methodical process in the presentation of equations. The ordering of the book was not in typical fashion of how FEA is taught. Theory is great, but without examples, students are not going to be able to apply the theory well. I have never gotten rid of an engineering book including undergraduate and graduate course textbooks. This is the first book I've had to sell, that should tell you a lot. I will go back to referencing my undergraduate and other graduate FEA book I have as I did throughout most of the course since this book was useless. As someone else stated, the verbiage in this book is terrible, it's presented so over-the-top. The role of a textbook is to break down complex topics into useable information, not to over-complicate as this book has done so well. Avoid this book or any class that uses this book because you will basically not have a book to refer to.

I really tried to learn the finite element method by reading this book in great detail and is why I bought this book for an introduction Finite Element class. The organization and notation of symbols of the book was very odd, and therefore made it hard to read. Rather than talking about the theory first, the authors first state the equations, and then talk about "remarks" on the equations and underlying theory. The book contains very easy and introductory examples and problems, not practical examples that would help in the computer implementation of finite elements. For example, the book does not contain any examples on how to compute the stresses and strains from interconnected finite elements (which would help greatly when you want to write your own finite element program). Overall, a very confusing and brief presentation of the topics. I would not recommend this book.

The authors cover a lot of grounds very efficiently. The book is well written in a crystal clear prose that is very informative. There are several aspects of real estate I know about, invariably I found the authors information on all those counts accurate. This gave me confidence that the authors' coverage on the multitude of things about real estate I do not know anything about was credible.One of the authors main quality is that they do not overplay much the merits of real estate investing. For the most part it is hard work. Landlording is not for everyone. And, the way they test your own temperament and lifestyle preferences to figure out if you are cut for that job is realistic. Many of the readers may find out they are not cut out to manage their own property. If that is the case, don't despair. You can always hire a property manager. But, that is going to cost you a good 10% of your rental revenues or you can even just invest in REITs. However, with the latter you will not achieve the same leverage, return profile, and tax advantages as with firsthand real estate direct investments. It is a world of trade offs out there with no explicit free lunch. If you want the easy path to real estate investing (hiring property manager, investing in REIT), your return profile may be much different. And, the authors impart very good information on all those options.Their section on tax is also excellent. They always state the caveat that tax considerations are complicated, and that tax laws constantly change, so that you should not explore tax considerations without a professional advisor. Yet, as off my writing this review and after just having studied IRS Publication 527 on Residential Rental Property, the information disclosed in the book seemed pretty accurate and current as of now. This obviously does not preclude that the info will be obsolete tomorrow as the two cautious authors warn.Overall, I do strongly recommend this book. It is a very small investment with a huge return in terms of your gaining much knowledge regarding this complex investment field.

As a young investor, I found this an excellent read and I imagine I will be referring to it for years to come. It offers sound advice on investing - backed by facts in the form of graphics, articles, examples, and clear references. Opinions are clearly marked as such - opinions, and the authors aren't trying to sell you some other product. Aside from covering in detail the topic of active Real Estate investing, it also covers (to a lesser extent)passive real estate investing, tax issues, advice on personal financing, and finally - information on where to learn more.I love this book and I would gladly buy it again if given the choice.

Very highly recommended if you are going for the WCNA certification. This is a great companion to work through after reading the huge WCNA Study Guide book. This little exam prep guide truly gets you ready for the exam - use it to identify which areas you might need to go back and research/re-read on to solidify your knowledge.There are several questions from here that will appear on the exam, granted it probably will not be word for word. Just passed on 2/21 and I really think it would not be possible without prepping with super handy book.

I passed the exam using this book. I was expecting a number of individual practice exams, but instead this is laid out as one long exam with multiple questions covering each topic area. So I took it 3 separate times and compared results as a memory/comprehension test to see if I could remember the right answers (or could figure them) out during each trial. I also timed myself during each trial. Having it broken out into separate practice tests would help with timing the tests to see if you could finish in time.

If your in Network Engineering, or data security YOU NEED THIS! I have now incorporated protocol analysis into my college class and use Wireshark as the class tool. Looking to see many other schools do so also. Understanding protocols is essential as a Data Communications professional.

At the right price, this is a pretty good book. I'm usually not a fan of books that are simply recycled old articles that were published in a wood working magazine. This book however is an exception. The paper is heavy gloss stock, there's plenty of large color photos, reasonably good plans and well thought out instructions on how to assemble the 21 projects. Virtually every single page and every inch of each page is dedicated to some type of useful information. I'd rather pull this book off the shelf than go searching through my old magazines looking for projects.The projects are nice pieces, they're straight forward, and vary in difficulty. While there are a couple of pieces that aren't to my personal taste, none of them look like some tacky thing banged together in the basement out of #2 grade construction lumber. I plan to build more than a few of the projects.

This is a review of the quality of the reissue of the book, of which I do not believe Don Marler would be pleased. The original book is in hardback, nicely formatted with the paragraphs justified. Footnotes properly appear at the bottom of their respective pages and are numbered accordingly. New chapters started at the tops of pages. Marler released a quality product in 1973. The same cannot be said for 2016, through no fault of his.In the poorly proofed 2016 edition, paragraphs are not justified. Some footnotes appear on wrong pages and most are improperly numbered. One is not referenced in the text at all. On page 8, the first footnote for Alan Watts is not marked. The second for him is noted in the text but the corresponding footnote number instead referenced Khalil Gibran, instead of stating "Ibid, p. 88," which appears nowhere in the book.Some paragraphs are indented and some are not. At least two sentences suddenly break off into another line of print, such as on page 14 where after two words on a line, it breaks into the next line of print. There is some punctuation that should not be there as well as some incorrect punctuation. There is capitalization where there should be none and typographical errors.The contents page gives wrong page numbers for the beginning of chapters and all chapters do not start at the top of a page.In the bibliography for the original, the 17 authors referenced are listed alphabetically and are not numbered. In the reissue they are alphabetical (except for incorrectly placing Ayn Rand at the top) and numbered 1-14. It lists Gibran twice and leaves out Fletcher, Kinsey, Marler, Packard and Toffler.The back cover states Mr. Marler "passed away February 2016" when it was on Saturday, January 30, 2016.When people are being charged $12.99 for a paperback and $6.99 for a Kindle edition, there should not be this many clerical errors in the material. Purchases should be temporarily suspended while the book is properly proofed and the multiple errors corrected.

Featuring great artwork from Babs Tarr and wonderful world building from Fletcher, Image's Motor Crush is a great series about a world that revolves around the highly competitive sport of motorcycle racing. Domino is the star of the book, a young woman who is an up and coming racing star, but who secretly also races in underground gladiatorial style races where the motorcyclists use weapons to knock one another off their bikes to win the race. Much of the racing world revolves around "Crush" a powerful and illegal accelerant that can give racers an edge when it is injected into their bikes. However, the drug is deadly to humans if ingested... except for Domino who actually needs the fuel to survive. Hiding this secret from everyone but her adopted father, Domino prepares for her biggest race ever. When her ex-girlfriend Lola winds up in debt with the wrong people, Domino decides to wager her lover's debt in a bet on her victory. The world of Motor Crush is absolutely insane, but beautiful thanks to Tarr's and Cameron Stewart's work (they previously both worked on the late New 52 era Batgirl series) and the mystery surrounding Domino's origins and her ability to survive ingesting Crush provides a compelling story (especially thanks to an insane cliffhanger ending to this first volume). The book is an absolute must read for racing genre fans, but even those like myself who aren't normally big racing/sports comic stories fans will get into this story and these characters.

Crush is an illegal accelerant made to put in bikes to push the machines beyond their limit so racers can win but Domino Swift needs the toxic substance to survive? Who is she? What is she? Can Domino live to race another day, stay clear of the Producers and win back her hot ex Lola Del Carmen all while she races for more Crush and answers to her past? Well I gotta know!Volume 1 already has me hooked! A badass female protagonist in a sci-fi action-adventure that pulls you all the way in. Also the graphics are honestly stunning and I love it so much! It is a must read, you gotta check it out!

No questions asked a top 5 book being published right now. Fletcher/Stewart/Tarr take everything that was great about Batgirl of Burnside to another level. The rest of the team in Muller/Schaefer/Bidikar bring their best as well. I'm so pumped for the series to come back in sept!!!!!!!!

I personally dont really read comics, follow sports, racing, or much action but this was amazing. The comic was in perfect condition and kept me emersed until I reached the last page. The art is bright and unique and the story was extremely enjoyable, despite knowing close to nothing about racing bikes.

Beautifully rendered scenes, with color schemes to make your inner art critic squeal with delight. The characters are relatable, lovable, and the plot is so intriguing. The LGBT representation was realistic, too; the romance depicted isn't perfect but it isn't inherently harmful, either. The dialogue is sometimes campy, but in a way that comics SHOULD be, in an authentic, fun-loving way that makes you want to take a deep dive into the world of Motor Crush. Would recommend for those that like: action/adventure, futuristic sci-fi, slice of life.

This is a great series so far. I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Originally I purchased this for the simple fact that there were rumors comic shops weren't selling it because the main character is a woman and a poc. But, it very well written and very well illustrated. The plot pulls you in and keeps you reading. Give it a chance! You'll love it!

This comic is awesome! I'll start with that simple fact. The story is enticing and the graphics really bring you into Nova Honda. But the thing that stood out to me the most was the fact that rhe lead chatacters are people of color and people with varying body types too! And queer!! I feel seen! I fell into this comic scrolling through Pinterest. I saw a picture of Dom and Lola and was instantly hooked! (Awesome names btw) Thanks for making a comic that puts girls that look like me and the girls I like in a world of racing and fantasy!

The story is interesting and unique, and the artwork is beautiful! I feel like the characters could use a little more depth and complexity at times. Also, this definitely leans towards comic more than graphic novel, for anyone who cares (didn't make much of a difference to me).
