A nice conclusion to the Dino series. Now moving on to Klein's mysteries series.As previously noted, this series of books fit my needs perfectly. The stories were moderately interesting while keeping the vocabulary manageable. The text was over-glossed a tad, but better that than under-glossed, particularly for anything approaching idiom. Chapter lengths were also "just-right", more than a few pages, but not so long that it became annoying to move back and forth to the glossary when necessary (I read on a Kindle). The stories also have a bit of a contemporary feel to them, as one of the sub-plots involves refugees. So five stars for me.(By way of reference, my German study consists of one year of college courses (years ago), a couple community ed courses (also years ago) and, more recently, self study, probably putting me at present somewhere in the vicinity of a second (college) year student.)

I'm a beginner learning German. I had a few high school courses, and spent some time on DuoLingo. That little bit of background is enough to enjoy these stories, which are realistic, interesting and funny. The good storytelling is the best motivation I have ever had to practice. The characters are endearing, especially Dino who has flaws we can all relate to. I've learned a lot and will read the whole series more than once.

What lovely, charming books these are. Not too easy, not too hard, they provide a distinct thrill when you’re able to read a paragraph at a time without looking in the dictionary for help. Just perfect for the beginner German student, or any lover of languages.

Mr Klein has once again given us a good story for the intermediate reader of German. In this one, the vocabulary is much larger, but the careful reader will notice that while there are many more new words per chapter than in Mr Klein's other books, many are cognates, compound words, or understandable by context. Being able to read these stories the first time with hardly any stops to look up a word, and get all the meanings the second time and pick up a few things you missed the first time, makes all of this very enjoyable. And for a bonus, Mr Klein throws in a little Viennese dialect (sometimes you just have to memorize--just like idioms in English to a non-native speaker).I have read many of Mr Klein's books, and enjoyed them all. I hope he'll give us a new one soon.

Excellent beginner tutorials for German. The whole series is great. Two are available as audiobooks so you can work on your pronunciation, but these books are geared toward vocabulary and a little grammar.

This is a great way to get the flow of German. The author does a great job, and I can't wait to read them all; it really is good for many different levels of learners!

It is an entertaining painless way to learn or improve German skills. A cute real life story with a bit of romance provides interest and entertainment. I learned quite a bit and I consider my self somewhat fluent in German yet striving to improve. I like the way I can tap on words for translations as well as the key word translations at the end.

I have all of André's books. I'm not so fond of his fantasy genre, but I love, love, love, the Dino-visits-different-European-cities books and the Baumgartner krimi's. They are a fantastic way to practice my fledgling German, and expand my vocabulary effortlessly. I decided to return it partly because the writing is so small it is not easy to read comfortably and unforgivably I think some maps are split between two pages with sections that are not visible as the pages merge in the middle, for example the map of Manhattan. If the book had been twice the size with maps on fold out pages I would have loved it even though it would have been heavy, it would have been great for advanced planning.

Let me first say that I love DK Eyewitness Travel Guides. I try and get one whenever I go on a trip and am always really happy with them. Very detailed and colorful. Full of interesting pieces of information not just of the cities/state/country but travel information like getting there, hotels and more. Eyewitness is my go to book.Unfortunately, I didn't realize they didn't have a book on the state of Georgia or the south east so I bought the USA guide.. The USA guide is very big, very nice and includes information on all 50 states, but there are only four pages total on the state of Georgia. Really, four? I got more information from the Trip Advisor website then from this guide. Very disappointed, but I will keep the book.I don't recommend this book if you are looking for in-depth information on the state of George or the states surrounding it. Hopefully Eyewitness reads this and creates a worthy book for Georgia or at least the South East states. It deserves better than this.

Really small print. Hard to read, even with ample light and glasses on! A big disappointment. It mentions great places to see, but fails to give details that make you feel you want to visit. I went to Morocco and left this book at home.

The book itself was very informative and came with wonderful illustrations. It will be very useful for a trip I will be taking in the near future. I've never been much of a complainer, but the only problem I had with this purchase was the packaging. I ordered three of these books, which are pretty heavy and they were placed loosely in the box. Two of the books, which were intended as gifts, arrived in decent condition, but the third book, which I kept as my own, arrived with a corner very damaged. The damage was either the direct result of the treatment of the box by the mail carrier or it was damaged by the supplier. If it was damaged by the mail carrier, the extent of the damage could have been eliminated by more careful packaging. I still gave the item a five star rating because the book itself was very good.

Was very good--but wished it had more camps and details--that is what I bought it for. Not to talk of general history and habitats or animals.If it is your only and first book about Kenya safaris--then might be okay.I was looking more of Travel Guide across Kenya with specific recommendations of camp by camp by reserves or areas.For what it does--it is good.Just to general and not specific for me.

Wonderful book if you are able to read the minuscule print! I can't so I had to buy a page magnifier. The guide has a Lot of Great Maps and descriptions.

DK pictures are always amazing. As a reader, it encourages to preview and read more pages in it. There's a lot to see in the United States, and this book is a must have in your library for travel information.

The book talks about how psychiatric drugs damage your brain but it only has 1 short chapter on how to withdraw from the drugs by tapering off by 10% as an example. The book has case studies of psychiatricwithdrawal but not a lot of info on how to handle the withdrawal symptoms except by family and therapeutic emotional support by the medical staff.

Plenty of valuable information but a ridiculous price for a regular book. I was expecting more of a reference style book.

This is a great book, especially if you want to SLOWLY come off of your meds. Shows the ins and outs of what you may face and addresses it quite clearly and thoroughly. I've been off all my meds for 6 months and I've been doing better than ever when in the past I had struggled so much that I had returned to taking the psych drugs. Never again! And this book will show you the right way to go about coming off your psych meds safely. Remember that coming off requires a slow taper. Personally, it took me 5 months to taper. The book teaches that it may take longer or less than that and will tell you the safest way to get off the meds. Can't say enough for Dr.Breggin or this book!

In Peter Breggin's view, I'm doomed to hell on earth -- nothing can change that. Damage done; hope not any longer.Few books are worth $45 bucks. Especially when the author offers hope and so-called "guidance" to people and families about psychiatric drug withdrawal. Breggin makes no effort to describe what the withdrawal will actually be like, he ignores what drove his readers to take the "medication" in the first place, and he offers no insight about how people can handle their problems during withdrawal and mainly he suggests such people can subsist on his rare but selfless brilliance, which exists ... nowhere.FWIW Mr. Breggin, I've never heard of any psychiatrist so caring as to bring his wife to a patient's home on a Sunday afternoon for an impromptu trip to their office to help them cope.In fact, Mr. Breggin, it's astonishing that nowadays psychiatrists avoid the very people they've damaged so dispassionately.I'm sad to see you portray yourself and Ginger as such people, who then turn around and accept $45 bucks for a book that will help relatively few people stay away from them.I respected you a lot as a student of Dr. Satz, but you're simply grabbing up money from people who often have absolutely nothing left to give. Pity you. Greed does bring out an ugliness far worse than anything you describe.I gave this book a higher rating to encourage those considering these disabling meds to ... find another way.

Excellent research and independent view from what has been force fed, taught, and imposed on patients. A great sign of hope and a course correction verification for what inwardly a patient has known all along, this medication isn’t good for me and is making my life worse and no body in the medical field, hospitals, or state hospitals will listen. This is a journey of hope on a difficult but worth it path back to living life much closer to normal than it’s been for over 30 years. Thank God for Dr. Breggin and the others who are also now finding forging this path, I wish we would have found this much earlier, but and grateful we finally did.

Breggin understands the relationship between drug use and abuse and symptoms related to chronic use and withdrawal. After the work of Whitaker (2010 and Whitaker and Cosgrove (2015) there should be no more denial regarding the impact of psychotropic medications on mental illness. Psychotropic medications seem to promote the symptoms they are in fact suppose to remediate. Dr Breggin understands this and therefore provides a detailed approach for helping professionals help patients withdraw from these destructive drugs.

I was disappointed with the lack of specificity about HOW to withdraw in terms of tapering schedules, drug substitutions, and so on. Breggin spent an inordinate amount of time on the psychosocial aspects of withdrawal like therapist or family involvement. I think his title is misleading because it SHOULD be a "how-to" book on how to get off of these dangerous medications. As far as the psychosocial aspects, no two people have the same level of family/friend support for their plight.I also believe he spent far too little time on the benzodiazepines in particular. Withdrawal from these drugs can be positively life threatening. I can tell any would-be purchasers of this book who are on benzodiazepines should consult the work of Heather Ashton because Breggin's book is worthless for those seeking concrete withdrawal advice for specific benzos.In summary, I feel that the book's title is misleading and its advice not medically specific enough to be relevant to takers of psychiatric medications. And the book is NOT cheap.

In her book The Little School: Tales of Disappearance and Survival in Argentina Alicia Partnoy describes her imprisonment in the 1970's in Argentina. She was a political activist who did not like the way her government treated people of Argentina. Partnoy was determined to stand up against the government despite the risk of being arrested. Once captured and brought to the Little School of imprisonment by the military, Partnoy describes the daily torture inflicted on the activists. The captors blindfolded and tortured prisoners on daily basis. Prisoners were molested and nearly starved. The conditions she describes under which they lived were horrible and difficult to tolerate. Despite the oppression, Partnoy showed that she is a survivor by standing up to her captors and always trying to make the life of her fellow prisoners better. She cared very deeply about her cause and even more about others who were mistreated. As her friends were taken away and killed, Partnoy remained determined to keep their memory alive by wring this book and including a written case about others who vanished to ensure they are remembered. Her story is very personal and she allows a reader into her most difficult moments for which I am very grateful. This book was a required reading for a woman's studies class and I am grateful that I had an opportunity to read it.

THE LITTLE SCHOOL is a beautiful brilliant book in heartbreaking and heartening ways. The vicious brutality and sadism of the military regime and the guards is not detailed---mostly elided (she leaves that to the newspapers)---in a generous, clear focus on her fellow prisoners and their inner dignity. A book of striking humanity at its extremes.I think she's a great writer overlooked in the hype of American literary bizness because her story of epic, unceasing bravery in the face of terror and death doesn't correspond to stereotypes of macho and military heroism conveyed by industrial culture to the youth. Instead, her various books speak of a woman's unbreakable integrity. Partnoy's unassuming storytelling delivers a perspective on this too-common modern atrocity that is new and rare, and whose astonishing generosity of spirit is fitting tribute to her peers who did not survive.

This was definitely an interesting and easy to read story. The Little School is Alicia Partnoy's account of what she experienced, through a blindfold, when she was forced into one of the many government concentration camps in Argentina during the Dirty War. She writes about her personal experience, thoughts and the stories of some of her fellow political dissidents. Overall it was a good read and shed to light an event I knew little to nothing about. It wasn't too intense so the average reader should be able to get through it without nightmares. It is clear that she undoubtedly left out the gory details. The book went into little detail about anybody's dark feelings, torture sessions and practically nothing about the sexual assault they must have endured. Maybe this was to save the reader, maybe she felt like it would have given the torturers some sick glorification, or maybe she just wanted us to get to know the prisoners as people not just torture victims. In any case, it was definitely a personal yet light hearted way to gain some understanding of an important event in history that can always repeat itself.

The Little School was definitely a tale of survival. Partnoy in a way illustrates this novel more than writes it because she describes things with so much detail and really paints a picture in your head. Her stories are fascinating in both heart breaking and inspiring. The other survivors who went through this experience with her are described as very special people who she cared deeply about, even at times more than herself. The book is only about 130 pages with each chapter being extremely short so it only takes a couple hours to actually read the entire book and its an easy read at that. I enjoyed this book and think it should be considered as one of the better tales of survival amongst the many out there.

The idea that there are people still missing, having "disappeared" in Argentina, is a horrifying thought. Alicia Partnoy writes of her kidnapping in Argentina and her ordeal at a prisoner camp. Her time in prison detailed in this story makes you see her as such a hero not only to those she tried to help during her stay, but for herself as well. She was able to keep herself strong so that she could survive the ordeal as well as help everyone around her. She made sure on a daily basis to do things that reminded her that she was alive and functioning and she could survive. She truly is an amazing woman to have gone through this ordeal and her story is certainly worth reading.

I heard about this book through of an interview of the author on APM's The Story podcast. Her voice translated beautifully to the page. Despite the horrors she and those around her faced, she recreates the emotions and experiences in an almost poetic way. It was a short and easy read.

Logically complete, your questions will always have an answer if you look for them. The build-up of concepts based on previous concepts is complete. Examples are thought-provoking and rarely tedious. Explanations are precise, clear, and complete, and not wordy.

You're going to have to do some leg work of your own to fully grasp classical mechanics from this text, but as a primer, or a theoretical background, it's a fairly solid textbook.

I found this book to be a fantastic overview of classical mechanics. Having already had a fairly extensive background in undergraduate level math and physics, I found the level on which this book operates to be a perfect next step: very rigorous but clear, with many excellent problems at the end of each chapter which introduce important topics and provide a good range of difficulty. This would probably not be a good introduction to the topic, but would be excellent for anyone with at least the equivalent of a freshman physics and calculus course under their belt who wants a more advanced treatment.

This is a great book! It may sound like a minor detail, but the font on a paperback textbook makes all the difference in the world! The author spaces the text from the equations and uses a very elegant style to format everything. He strategically uses the dot-notation for time derivatives in places to reduce clutter and d/dt notation where emphasis is needed. The subjects are arranged in a fluid fashion and is suitable for [in my opinion] both Intermediate and Graduate level Mechanics.

This book was actually better than my graduate level book. Very clear and lots of detail.

This book covers a huge amount of classic physics techniques and theories. I bought it for the Hamiltonian section but I really like reading it. Note - I am not a physicist but I have a masters in math and do a lot of reading for amusement in physics of all kinds.

Packs a lot for its (thankfully) small physical size. Great review/reference travel text.

This insider perspective of the brother of Ken Saro-Wiwa provides an interesting take on the life of the Wiwas and the Ogoni people. The book was not always a smooth read for me - at times it felt more like a collection of stories strung together, but ultimately I enjoyed the book, and the spotlight it shines on the ecological disaster wrought by the oil industry (and corrupt and colluding politicians) and what it means for ordinary people.

This book is rich and heartbreaking.Documenting the atrocities that Dutch Royal Shell committed against the Ogoni people and the struggle the Wiwa family went through to return the bodies of wrongfully executed civilians this book is harrowing. While dense, I was surprised how well everything flowed together and I didn't feel like I got too bogged down. The retelling of Ken Wiwa's assassination is an important and gut wrenching story to tell.Exposing the wrongs of Shell and how corruption hurt an entire community, this book is eye opening. The Wiwa family and many others faced terrible injustices that should be remembered and not repeated
