Logically complete, your questions will always have an answer if you look for them. The build-up of concepts based on previous concepts is complete. Examples are thought-provoking and rarely tedious. Explanations are precise, clear, and complete, and not wordy.

You're going to have to do some leg work of your own to fully grasp classical mechanics from this text, but as a primer, or a theoretical background, it's a fairly solid textbook.

I found this book to be a fantastic overview of classical mechanics. Having already had a fairly extensive background in undergraduate level math and physics, I found the level on which this book operates to be a perfect next step: very rigorous but clear, with many excellent problems at the end of each chapter which introduce important topics and provide a good range of difficulty. This would probably not be a good introduction to the topic, but would be excellent for anyone with at least the equivalent of a freshman physics and calculus course under their belt who wants a more advanced treatment.

This is a great book! It may sound like a minor detail, but the font on a paperback textbook makes all the difference in the world! The author spaces the text from the equations and uses a very elegant style to format everything. He strategically uses the dot-notation for time derivatives in places to reduce clutter and d/dt notation where emphasis is needed. The subjects are arranged in a fluid fashion and is suitable for [in my opinion] both Intermediate and Graduate level Mechanics.

This book was actually better than my graduate level book. Very clear and lots of detail.

This book covers a huge amount of classic physics techniques and theories. I bought it for the Hamiltonian section but I really like reading it. Note - I am not a physicist but I have a masters in math and do a lot of reading for amusement in physics of all kinds.

Packs a lot for its (thankfully) small physical size. Great review/reference travel text.

During Ken's incarceration on a trumped-up murder charge, his brother, Dr. Owens Wiwa, fought valiantly to save his life -- even though he himself was on his government's most-wanted list. When his quest failed, Owens narrowly escaped Nigeria with his life, fleeing the country on foot with his wife and newborn son, first to London, where he was embraced by the likes of Anita Roddick and Doris Lessing, and then to Toronto, where he now lives. Owens Wiwa has taken up his brother's environmental crusade and fought, against terrible odds, to have his brother's remains returned to the family for a proper burial. His story is a heart-stopping saga of personal courage and official corruption, of individual selflessness and corporate greed, of a man's abiding love for his brother and extraordinary determination to honour him.

The book was not always a smooth read for me - at times it felt more like a collection of stories strung together, but ultimately I enjoyed the book, and the spotlight it shines on the ecological disaster wrought by the oil industry (and corrupt and colluding politicians) and what it means for ordinary people.

This book is rich and heartbreaking.Documenting the atrocities that Dutch Royal Shell committed against the Ogoni people and the struggle the Wiwa family went through to return the bodies of wrongfully executed civilians this book is harrowing. While dense, I was surprised how well everything flowed together and I didn't feel like I got too bogged down. The retelling of Ken Wiwa's assassination is an important and gut wrenching story to tell.Exposing the wrongs of Shell and how corruption hurt an entire community, this book is eye opening. The Wiwa family and many others faced terrible injustices that should be remembered and not repeated

This book is for the silly at heart. When a child reads this book (or has the book read to him or her), they go on this imaginary adventure of what if with the crocodile. Funny things happen. Definitely a wonderful book.From some other reviews, I can tell there is an adult perspective and not a child perspective. Obviously a real crocodile under a Christmas tree would be a bad thing, but a friendly imaginary crocodile would be a harmless, funny thing. Enjoy the freedom of being a child.The seller was excellent as the heavy storms caused damage to the book and it was replaced immediately.

This book is a hoot. I think I was more excited to receive it and read it than the kids were. That said, it quickly became a family favorite, and I can see us reading this every year for the holidays. It works on multiple levels: younger readers will be mostly amused by the antics of the titular character, while older kids will appreciate the "twist" ending, and the adults the allusions to the Victorian/Edwardian period from which the book's visuals draw inspiration (hint: Uncle Theodore certainly resembles an avid nature lover who became president in the early 20th century).

The book description and cover made it sound it was aimed at a younger audience. The "humor" went way over my 3 year olds head. We didn't find it funny. We found it depressing. The crocodile eats all of the Christmas things and ruined things. It's like the Lemony Snickets Christmas holiday. Debating saving it for when she's older or passing it along.

I love this book, I bought it for my kids and for my nieces! The funny gift is only compounded by the family's silly reactions to his hungry antics. At Christmas they had me read this book EVERY day, in the case of my daughter again and again and again...

What would you do if you found a Crocodile under your Christmas tree....laugh out loud and enjoy reading about it. I enjoyed the pictures and laughed at each family member idea on what to do with the destructive crocodile. I have to say that my nephew and any new little member of our family will receive this book from me at Christmas. Great job Bonny Becker!

We purchased several of these to send to cousins for Christmas and to keep at our own home—our children (2, 3 years old) loved it as did older cousins (9 and 10 years old). It is a very silly book, but our kids are used to those at our house :) The illustrations are delightful!

Okay Christmas Story... not a favorite. Felt like it drug on a bit. I’d say 6+ for age range for this story.

"The New York City Subway System" by Ronald A. Reis. Chelsea House Publishing, 2009.This is a slim little book, some 136 pages long, that was written at some distance from the New York City Subway System, by a Californian. The book is a concise little history of the New York Subways; the book draws heavily from material that is generally available on the WEB. I doubt that the author consistently rode the subway s during rush hour.The book is in chronological order, beginning with the initial construction and opening of the first subway in NYC in 1904. Sorry to say that Boston had a subway before New York City, as the author notes on page 16, when he notes the construction of the MBTA. In fact, the author has scattered throughout the book little boxes, which note the construction of other subway systems, e.g. Atlanta (p.47) and Los Angeles (p. 53).The book traces the construction of the many miles of the NYC subway systems: the Independent Line (IND), the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) and the BMT = Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit. In his history of the lines, the author misses so many opportunities to tell the more of the lore of the subways, not just a minimal, but accurate history.For example, the IND line had the "A" train which ran up into the North of Manhattan, right through Harlem. This was the genesis of the famous song, "Take The `A' Train" by Duke Ellington. Then, on page 44, he has a photo of the sinking of steel tubes for the two track line that left Manhattan, ran under the Harlem River and rose up on the main land (still part of the Borough of Manhattan). Centuries ago, the Dutch called that part of the river, "Sputyn Duvil", meaning "Spit At The Devil", since it was such a dangerous place to navigate. It is just east of the Henry Hudson Bridge. In 2009, we are celebrating Henry Hudson' 1609 voyage on the "Half Moon", and the author could have embellished his book with some tidbits like that.I wonder if the IRT 155th Street Station still has the ceramic sign announcing the "Polo Grounds", where the New York Giants (Baseball) played? To check that, the author would have had to ride uptown to The Bronx, although he does write about the "Subway Series". He missed so much more. Another example: Manhattan College was founded in lower Manhattan in 1853, taking the formal name of Manhattan College, in 1863, when the school received its charter of the New York Board of Regents. Later the College moved to 131st Street and Broadway, in the middle of Harlem, but was forced to move again in 1922, when the IRT constructed its north-bound line. So, Manhattan College moved to the Riverdale section of The Bronx, and now, more than 150 years later, you have the trivia question: "Where is Manhattan College? " Answer: "In The Bronx!" All because of the NYC Subways.By the way, the author also missed an interesting fact. Generally, credit is given to Mayor Rudi Giuliani for cleaning up the graffiti on the subway cars. This book does not mention him. Rudi Giuliani is Manhattan College, Class of 1965.

About the Author

Claire Wineland is a 15 year old girl living with cystic fibrosis. In 2010 she fell into a septic coma and ended up on full life support for 16 days with only a 1% chance of survival. But, survive she did and returned home to her ever grateful family. Since then, Claire has dedicated her life to being of service to others living with cystic fibrosis by founding "Claire's Place Foundation". Writing this book with her dear friend Chynna Bracha Levin was a way that she could get her message out there to others - a message of hope, gratitude and making the best of what life gives you.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I loved it, my girls loved it, we all just loved it. As a mom of two children with Cystic Fibrosis, I found this book to be uplifting and positive. Claire's message is such a good one. She not only tells her story, she tells everyone's story who lives with this disease in the most positive way possible. It's my opinion that everyone living with a chronic illness, not just CF, as well as their caregivers would benefit from her words of wisdom. I would even go so far as to say that EVERYONE in general should live this way, which is in the present. I'm thinking of buying a few extra copies to give to my girl's teachers because she gives the reader such a clear visual of what a CF kid has to go through every day just to stay as healthy as possible. Yes, it's a serious disease but Claire gives us all hope that we don't have to sit around waiting for the next infection. Such a positive message from such a special girl. I give it a million thumbs up. :)

This is a story told with extraordinary honesty, candor, and detail by Claire Wineland about many of her most significant experiences with Cystic Fibrosis. I do not remember how I came across her website, but I was immediately captivated by her brilliant personality upon viewing her vlogs. This is a very intelligent girl who is very good at being a teenager. She has a delightfully off-beat sense of humor and outgoing personality that has often made me forget that she has a progressive disease. At the same time, she must be close to attaining self-actualization. Her self-awareness is almost unheard-of for a girl of her young, vulnerable age. It is very moving how open she is about her struggles and even about personal weaknesses and flaws. It is evident that she is speaking from her heart in order to share her story not to make herself look good, but to share a vivid and transparent picture of her experiences for the benefit and personal growth of both sick and "healthy" people alike.She has gained lots of national and international attention through not just her website and vlog, but also through actual television and radio features and interviews. Despite this, she has remained a "normal" teenager and keeps extraordinarily busy with many things, not the least of which is Claire's Place Foundation, the goal of which is to educate people suffering from her disease, and to help CF families with funding for a variety of necessities. In this small book, she goes into a dense and enlightening amount of detail about her experience launching her Foundation, her coma experience (she had a 1% chance of survival), as well as her inner emotional experience, which was rocky at times, as to be expected. In fact, Claire shares much more detail in the book than is possible on her vlogs. One comes away from her book much more enlightened about her experiences and how these have helped her to grow as a person. In her latest vlog update, she makes it clear that the writing in is book is from her perspective (in other words, it is HER writing). After reading her book, this is obvious to me because I can detect her "voice" after having viewed so many of her vlogs. Her friend merely helped her to be more concise in her writing.To conclude, Claire beautifully expresses her life experience in this book. I have found myself rereading certain parts of this book for inspiration, and each time I do so, I am stunned by the depth of her thoughts and feelings. Among many things, by reading this book one can tell she is a true philosopher. In this world, this is something quite beautiful to achieve for someone so young.

I have been following Claire for about 3 years and grow more and more amazed at her ability to deal with her Cystic Fibrosis. I know nothing of Chynna but if, at eleven, she can write like this, then I hope she has a truly wonderful future. A book that should bring in money for research into Cystic Fibrosis, which must have a cure and soon.

There are no words that describe how wonderful this book was. If you or someone you know has CF, you should read this book. It is an amazing story about a young woman with so much courage to not only fight this disease but help others who also have it.

I can truly relate to all her stories. I know for a fact that she has endured all the treatments.

I knew Claire only slightly. As President of the National Special Needs Network she and I had communicated on occasion. She was a remarkable young woman with a fund of wisdom far beyond her years. She was also funny and sassy and spunky, and in 21 years accomplished far more than many people do who are fortunate to live full lifetimes. I strongly recommend this book, and I encourage you to watch Claire's amazing You Tube videos, full of life lessons. Claire's life was full, she experienced every moment of it to the maximum, and she has left a wonderful legacy behind her. She will inspire you to really live.
