"Irresistible" is aptly named as connoisseurs of vintage lingerie will find this book simply irresistible and hard to put down! Chock full by a veritable cornucopia of irresistible photographic images of what was available in lingerie to women from the 1920's thought the 1980's. Page after page draws one into the timeless beauty, romance and magic of yesterday's lingerie fashion with what is predominately Richard Reissig's stunning collection of vintage lingerie. The book is exquisitely put together by its creator Desire Smith and Stephanie Daugherty who designed the layout. The garments are superbly showcased to their best advantage by a stately mannequin, but I love the fact that Ms Smith chose to include live models who appear to be non-professionals to demonstrate how perfectly "real women" can enjoy and wear vintage lingerie today. A very informative book and a wonderful resource for both the collector and seller of vintage lingerie or for anyone who simply enjoys looking at beautiful things!
"Irresistible - The Art of Lingerie" by Desire Smith is a wonderful addition to my library of vintage clothes and jewelry. What a great surprise - such beautiful detail and outstanding photography by Richard Reissig. His collection is stunning. And if you ever have the opportunity to meet him as I have, you can't help but appreciate his fun and quirky side. The detail of the work, craftmanship and design of lingerie over the decades is captured exquisitely in this great hardcover book. Each page is a keeper - some bring back great memories and others are a great surprise! Definitely one to add to your collection and one that you will keep pouring over again and again.
Truly a comprehensive look into women's lingerie. The pictures are the story and the words explain the story in detail. The era's covered from 1920's through the 1980's have brought a new perception to the sensuality of the vintage lingerie compared to today's fashion. A simple look with detail or the high fashion look all done as a tasteful art as the pictures capture the elegance using both mannequins and real models. Dispersed throughout the book the author uses quotations that helps create a mood to explore the true sensual nature of women's lingerie. A definite 10 out of 10 rating for the vintage collector.

Pretty lingerie without sexually offensive content. There are lots of beautiful examples of women's lingerie and lounge wear represented.I am deducting two stars though for the following reasons:The photography leaves plenty of room for improvement. Many of the photos are a little on the dark side and too grainy. It does not look professionally shot IMHO. The examples are modeled on mannequins possibly from a department store basement. Backgrounds are inconsistent. And finally enter models about halfway through, that do not look professional, and an instant "cheese factor".I will be keeping the book because as a seamstress there is much inspiration to be gleaned from the content. Really had this book been better styled and photographed it would have been outstanding.
I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the book is. Beautiful photography, and vintage lingerie garments from the 1920's through the 1980's. Fabulous study guide for the collector or a great table conversation book for the living room. I would highly recommend everyone who loves lingerie, collects vintage clothing, or just wants to admire the beautiful artistry in these garments to buy this book!
This book exceeded my expectations with fantastic photography of intimate lingerie. I was desperate for inspiration for my own creations. This book was well organized by decade.
