Consumer Reports is always there when you need them to be. I bought this magazine for my daughter who was in need of a new (used) car. There are so many choices on the market that it is nice to have the benefit of an unbiased opinion on the quality and value of what is available. I have believed in Consumer Reports for the past 50 years and will continue to do so for the next 50. :)

Love full Consumer Reports but this is like a truncated clip show. Only a few worst and best, top line, little analysis. Waste of money.

On the brief side--if you want to learn all about a car you like this isn't the source, but if you want to filter down to a car or two you'd be willing to buy, it's the best. I trust this more than any other source.

For first time car buyers, this book has valuable information about buying a used car and the problems which may be encountered. There isinformation about financing, models, lemon cars and "Cream Puffs" The most important feature in the book is the guide to repairs foundon each model. The repair information is gathered from actual repairs made on each model and you can look back several years to seewhich model had the most repairs and the type of repair. It is well worth the money and can save consumers a lot of headaches and money !!!

These are not the worst sci-fi pulp reads (the series) out there, but definitely not the best. They are quick reads, but not memorable for the right reasons.Of all things to be bothered by, I can't reconcile the main character, other than he is a complete psychopath. Or not. On the one hand, he is portrayed as a space pirate with a heart of gold. On the other, he kills just about anything that moves without remorse or question when solutions are available and would be far more interesting.The focus on bullet damage descriptions only distract - neck-holes, brain splatter, and exploded jaws should not be the driving part of the story. Also, the engagements are predictable, and seem to always end with a violent confrontation. I found myself wishing over and over again for a cerebral surprise. "Maybe they won't need to blow up everybody for little to no reason this time with graphic bullet-penetration information!" Nope.The ship and her crew are fugitives, and not for the original crime. Their trail is piled-high with the merciless killings of servicemen of two empires (as well as countless other fringe groups and surely a large number of civilian bystanders). This is the true reason for their current station in life.While plodding through the first couple books, I stopped when I found myself rooting for their capture/judgement.

This reminds me of how Han Solo would have been in his early days. It's a fantastic, fast paced adventure tale that doesn't hold back in any way. I love how it started out kind of light and got dark and heavy at the end. This is a complete story, but it left me dying to know what happens in the next book!

From the the very beginning I have been hooked on this series, now reading 📚 Renegade's Children. This talented author brings it all, grumpy with a heart of gold reluctant hero, fabulous cast of supporting characters picked up along the way of never ending action whether it be dogfights in space, rescuing damsels in distress, metamorphing from a man after a buck to a man after justice, from a man who works alone to one with an ever growing crew picked up here and there in his transformation to one who takes on a corrupt legal/military system and learns to trust, care for and even put his life in the line for his friends and what is right. It's a rollicking, edge of your seat, humor when you least expect it pleasure to read or gobble up in my case. May the quest never end because this is so damn fun reading. Write on dear Author!!

In an effort to pay off a debt he meets a strange nun and with an even stranger cargo. The story that unfolds is well written and mysterious as Jace proceeds to get in over his head. The stories action sequences are exciting and fluid while the dialogue is believable and refreshing. This is a great SCIFI book from a great author! Well worth your time to read and enjoy.D!

The story that unfolds is well written and mysterious as Jace proceeds to get in over his head in this new space opera. The action sequences are exciting and fluid while the dialogue is believable and moves at a refreshing pace.I am really excited to see this gem pop up. I am looking forward to reading more of this series and it appears we won't have to wait long as the next installment will be coming out soon. Another great book from a great author!

This book is not poorly written. The author does have an engaging style, but the plotting and character development are below par. The hero, Jace Hughes, is supposed to be a lovable rogue, but actually comes off as a self-absorbed jerk, prone to making stupid decisions. The villains are all cardboard cutouts and interchangeable, with little to distinguish them. The idea is sound; Hughes takes on a job to pay his debts, and in the process gets pulled into a quest to find the mythical lost Earth, home planet of the human race. Not awful, but not worth the time.

So, I finished "Renegade Star" last night, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I got into it as the story went on. When I first bought it, I had heard all the references to "Han Solo" and "Firefly", and I went into it with a sort of chip on my shoulder because I expected the story to be a cheap, derivative mishmash of the two from an author I'd never heard of before. Needless to say, I was shortly dining on a feast of crow because, once I put those comparisons to the back of my mind, I was able to read and appreciate the story as the original work that it is, and it became a book I didn't want to put down until I finished! NOW the downside is that I apparently have 6 more books that I NEED to read, and I already have a massive book backlog as it is!

Jace Hughes is probably the fightingest (there is such a word isn't it) man in the known universe. Having picked up a nun and transporting her to a church planet for 5000 credits is not a bad deal for a few hours of traveling. Except the nun is no nun and her luggage no ordinary luggage. Before long Jace is running into one complication after the other. He soon has Union soldiers and a renegade moneylender after his hide. When one of those complications include tangling with a Sarconian space freighter he really is saddled with tons of problems.So what can Jace do but fight back.As introduction to a new series by J. N. Chaney this is quite an exciting space opera with lots of hair raising action and an amazing cast of characters. Especially Abigail and Octavia surprises and a little snip of a girl is somewhere along the way going to be the surprise package of the century. Enjoy!

This picture book, with minimal text -- none of which captions, footnotes, or cites the author's pictures -- is a warped indictment of the American college fraternity system by one of its many and growing faculty detractors. What these faculty detractors fail to understand and articulate is that for all the "bad" (and there's some of it in many fraternities), no other institution on American college life is more effective in developing the necessary communication and leadership skills necessary for newly minted college grads to transfer the general skills and technical knowledge they acquire in academia through better bedside manners, organization team leadership, networking, etc. when they are plunged into the real world.

A gorgeous and ironic art object. This powerful book is a key, unlocking how we got to this point in American history and culture. The list of powerful men who run our country, along with their fraternal affiliations, added a jaw-dropping layer to this book of powerful photographs depicting the dark underbelly of fraternity life. The essay by Cynthia Robinson was incredible. I see this book has gotten some attention, but everyone should be talking about this inspired project.

The juxtaposition of contemporary photos against decades-old texts of self-documented rituals for an exclusive youth culture (encouraged and managed by adults), that somehow continues to exist in 2018, is astounding. Combined with the leather binding, it's a true mass-produced art piece; and I wish more books were produced with this attention to visceral detail. Counter to the above reviewer's comments, all requisite attributions are properly included in the book's colophon.Only a true documentarian with both respect and a critical eye on their subjects, can capture a culture in this detail. The most privileged in all of American society, as Diane Arbus may have captured them.The emphasis is correctly placed less on the individual kids shown, and more on the systemic rituals captured in the reproduced texts (intentionally hidden from public view, until a fraternity house had gone abandoned and the photographer discovered them amidst its rubble); a beautiful cause/effect juxtaposition. Having grown-up in a college town and known this culture for years, I find this to be an important critical work in the cannon of American culture whose time is long overdue.

About the Author

Kay Van Norman is currently president of Brilliant Aging, a consulting firm specializing in exercise and wellness program design for older adults, development, and staff training. She taught in the department of health and human development at Montana State University for 18 years. For nine of those years she was also program director for Young at Heart, a university-based nonprofit exercise program for older adults. She went on to serve as director of the Keiser Institute on Aging, an international effort to bridge the gap between research and practice in the fields of gerontology, senior housing, fitness, and wellness. Van Norman received the Rosabel Koss Honor Award from the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness in 1998 for her service to the profession of older adult fitness. In 2003 she was given the National Council on Aging (NCOA) Health Promotion Institute’s Best Practices Award. She has served on numerous national boards and on the national committee for developing standards for training of senior fitness instructors. She is currently a board member of the International Council on Active Aging, NCOA’s Health Promotion Institute, and the American Senior Fitness Association. Van Norman earned her master’s degree in physical education from Montana State University in 1981. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences on aging and health.

This book is written for fitness professionals who work with older adults. This second edition is a much updated version over the previous one. But first and foremost it recognizes that older people are each at different levels of fitness and needs regarding their fitness planning.Moreover, the book is designed to help the professional develop plans that fit the person and help him or her to function in his unique lifestyle.Exercise gives older people so much --- just as it does young people. But older people perhaps get more emotional benefit from it because all too often they're lonely and depressed. Part of that is because everyday functioning is limited and painful in many cases.The book tells us about Ida Weiss, age 91. She ". . . participated in the Fiatarone strength training study through Tufts University in Boston while residing at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged. Subjects aged 72 to 98 participated in a 10-week strength training program that used progressive resistance. Strength increased an average of 113%. Gait velocity and stair-climbing ability also increased significantly (Fiatarone, 1994). In a television interview about strength training, Ida stated, 'I didn't think I was going to live any more, but now I feel different.'"This pretty much sums up what exercise can do and does do for the senior citizen.The book discusses levels of function and needs. This is critical in dealing with seniors. There are five distinct levels of function according to the author: physically dependent, physically frail, physically independent, physically fit, and physically elite.She writes, "I have identified priority needs for each group and suggested movement choices. Although aerobic conditioning is very beneficial, it is not the highest priority for those within the first two levels of function, who struggle to perform the most basic activities of daily living."This book really gets to the heart of helping older adults deal with their lives and the programs enable them to function well. It is very empowering. The fitness professional can be so instrumental in helping these folks have a much greater quality of life.Of course the book shows many exercises and describes how to help the client perform them safely --- keeping a close eye on the heart rate --- how different clients will have different needs regarding their heart rate zone and the intensity you ask them to work at.This is a great resource and I highly recommend it.- Susanna K. I bought this book with the understanding that there would be supportive materials on the website that accompanies this book. There is no website and the author's email comes back as invalid. What's up with that? At least have an email where we can find out what is going on with this. Or remove that from the description of the book. It is very misleading.

I would recommend this book to addicts and their families!

I loved this book. It emphasizes the positive reasons people want to recover. It shares how to recover and what a wonderful life is waiting. The tips outline how to enjoy the path of recovery.

There is lots of inspiration and practical application packed into this small book, which reads like a daily meditation. I read it in one sitting, but will go back and re-read it slowly to get the full benefit of the wisdom and insight Richard Singer has acquired during his lifetime as both a recovering addict and a psychotherapist. The book is beneficial whether the reader is an addict or has a loved on who is struggling to overcome this disease. Either way, you will feel encouraged and uplifted after reading what Singer has to share.

It is exciting to learn about the nanoscale world and nanotechnology's influence on pharmaceuticals, biomedical applications, energy, communications, engineering and the environment. The most amazing stuff are 'nanomedicine' and 'quantum computing & communications'. For your information, nanomedicine describes the medical field of targeting disease or repairing damaged tissues at the molecular level. Quantum computers will be able to process and store huge amounts of information. Quantum processing can operate millions, even billions of times faster than today's supercomputers!

Although it is a post library stock, the pages are clean and crisp. However, price could be lowered a bit.

Nanotechnology forms the basis of many evolving and upcoming technologies. This is an easy way to have a closer look at the technology without going through all the technical hassles. I was now able to broadly define nanotechnology and recommend it to all people with a curious outlook towards technology. A great buy for its content.

Easy to read and very informative for a first look into this subject. Liked the test sections. Would recommend at any time.

Nanotechnology promises to bring vast improvements in technology and standard of living in the next generation, and "Nanotechnology Demystified" is a good way for the general reader to get up to speed on this exciting new field. The author explains the basic scientific concepts behind nanotechnology, and then describes the expected advances that nanotechnology will make possible in areas such as health care, energy, computing, communications, electronics, and more. This is a book that will make the reader excited about the future.

I thought the book was not bad techniclly, albeit written at fairly low level, which I suppose it the focus of the book. However, the authors tried to be "cute" and "dumbed" down the writing, which I found annoying. For example, each chapter ended with a short quiz of 10-15 questions. Without fail, at least 1-2 questions had one absurd and stupid multiple choice answer. For example, Chapt 2, question 9 asks "a nanometer is equal to...?," and choice (a) is "zillionth of a meter." Pretty stupid-right? Chapter 3, question 4 asks "nanotechnology allows material to be created from...?," and choice (c) is "dust bunnies." Even more stupid. Chapt 4, question 6 asks "which of the following tools are not used by nanotechnologists in their work" and choice (d) is "a can opener." OK, now it's getting annoying. This continues through out the entire book, with each chapter having at least one such stupid choice. I don't know if the authors were trying to be funny, amusing, or inject some levity, but I think it had the effect of "dumbing-down the book." I found it rather annoying. It really wasn't the most scholarly work, but if you know absolutely nothing about nanotechnology, and wish to know at least the basic terminology, I suppose it's worth reading.
